The province occupies most of the coastline areas of Veneto all around the Venice lagoon, which has been for centuries a favourite destination of international tourism, as well as the background of literary works, paintings and movies, and a World Heritage site.
The northern area rotates around the major centres of Portogruaro and San Donà di Piave, the tourist resort of Jesolo, and Chioggia, one of the main Adriatic fishing ports and Italian naval industry centres.
