How to reach San Gimignano
San Gimignano is situated in the province of Siena, about 3 hours from Rome and 1 hour from Siena and Florence. The seaside resorts of the Maremma coast can be reached in about 1 hour. Following the A1 motorway: from the north, exit Firenze-Certosa, then proceed along the fast lane to Siena for about 40 km, as far as the exit Poggibonsi-Nord, then proceed for another 10km to San Gimignano. From the south, leave the A1 at Valdichiana and drive towards Siena, exit as above.
There is a train station at Poggibonsi, and from there buses or taxis to San Gimignano. To reach Poggibonsi, on the line Firenze-Siena-Orbetello, there are trains from Florence station Santa Maria Novella and from Siena [train timetables and tickets available on the official Trenitalia website].
There are a number of airports within reach of San Gimignano, the nearest being Aeroporto Amerigo Vespucci - Peretola (see website) 60 km away, then Pisa (148 km) and Roma-Fiumicino (311 km).
