Provinces of Sicily
The island is formed by two mountains joining in the Valdichiesa valley, which gives it the impression from the sea of being formed of two separate islands: that is why the Greeks called it "Dydime" (=twin island). The highest top is the Fossa delle Felci,963m a.s.l., which is also the highest summit of the Lipari group. The island is cultivated in terraces, and renowned for the production of capers and the special malvasia grapes.
