History
Carovilli takes its name from a small village founded by veteran soldiers of the Roman army in honor of their former commander, consul Spurius Carvilius. In the Middle Ages it was a dominion of the Borrello Counts, then passed in 1390 to Gurrello Origlia. In the 16th century it was a possession of the Marchesano family, followed by the D'Alessandro, who were the last lords until feudalism was suppressed in 1806.
Events and Festivities
- The "Sagra del Gambero", an ancient feast connected to the abundance of fish and crabs in the local water streams.
