History
The presence of an Italic temple of the 2nd century BC show that this was a center of some importance for the Samnites. In the 10th century there was a small borough called "Castelluccio", which should correspond with the area now called "Morrutto". The village was a fiefdom of the church and the name of San Giovanni probably refers to the deep worship of the saint; as a matter of fact, also the coat of arms of the municipality shows the lamb and the cross of St. John the Baptist.
