Roccavivara Archeological findings of remains of Roman villas in the area called San Fabiano and near the church of Santa Maria del Canneto show the existence of a flourishing Roman colony since late Republican times (1st century BC), that was later enlarged in the period of the Roman Empire. During the Middle Ages, in 1268 Gaultiero of Vollers became the lord of Roccavivara, then the fiefdom passed to Bertrando of the Cantelmo family, who kept it until 1442, to be followed by the Di Sangro, Carafa and finally the Coppola family.
