History
From the remains coming occasionally to light in abundance during agricultural works in the district called "Saccione", there was almost certainly an important rustic villa of Roman times. In a document written by Pope Lucio III there is mention of this center as belonging to condottiere Landolfo di Montelongo, who defended it against the Normans. For three centuries, from 1561 to 1811 Montelongo belonged to the Province of Capitanata (Foggia) then was included in Molise.
