Records of the Angevin times mention Colletorto in 1273, as belonging to Guglielmo D'Anglona. Oral tradition however says that Colletorto was founded after an earthquake that utterly destroyed previous medieval settlements, among them Laureto, where today is the Chapel of Santa Maria di Loreto.
