History
The area was inhabited before Roman times by the Caraceni, a Samnite people who built the town polygonal walls, and the "Sepolcreto" on the slopes of Mount Croce. Fromthe Caraceni the name of Saracinisco is derived, changed from Caracenisco to Saracinisco which led people to think wrongly of a connection with the Saracens. In the Middle Ages the village then called San Biase was a property of the Abbey of Montecassino, then in the 13th century it was included in the Dukedom of Alvito.
