The territory was the site of a Samnite settlement as evidenced by some archaeological traces in locality "Campo delle Secine". In the 16th century it was a fief of the Della Penna barons, then of the D'Aragona and subsequently of the Carbonelli family. In 1531 the fief of Letino was estimated at a thousand ducats, with a population of seventy-two families. The last feudal lord was Marco Aurelio Carbonelli who ruled until the abolition of feudalism in 1806. In 1945 the center passed from the province of Campobasso to that of Caserta.
