Fragneto l'Abate, Province of Benevento, Campania
The name of the village derives from Farnitum, perhaps from "farnia" (= English oak). During the Norman domination, the "Castello Farnitum Totonis" was donated to Madelmo Abbot of Santa Sofia in Benevento, and since then "Abbatis" (=of the abbot) was added to the name of the place.
