Castelpoto, Province of Benevento, Campania
The small center rose in the Samnite-Roman age on the hill overlooking the valley of the Calore river in Irpinia and the Benevento plain. It is renowned for the Castelpoto red sausage, to which a fair-market is dedicated at the end of April, which is prepared with coarsely ground, selected pork meats and sweet or spicy chilli powder obtained from the "papauli", typical chili peppers of the area.
