Grottolella, Province of Avellino, Campania

The small town of Grottolella, in the Partenio natural park, is surrounded by green woods and fertile fields with a Medieval Castle overlooking it from above. Since 2008 there is an international event, the Art and Music Prize Armando Gill (birth name Michele Testa, the first Italian singer-songwriter, the author of unforgettable motifs as "Come pioveva".

Where to stay


The ancient name of the town was Grotta (grotto) changed to Grotta Castagnara (Crypta Castanearum) and afterwards into Grotticelle e Grottolella (from Grutzcola, the name of the area where the castle was built). It was mentioned for the first time in a document of the 12th century, and was a fiefdom of the Carafa, the De Ponte, the Macedonia and the Imperiale families.
