Where to stay
The ancient name of the town was Grotta (grotto) changed to Grotta Castagnara (Crypta Castanearum) and afterwards into Grotticelle e Grottolella (from Grutzcola, the name of the area where the castle was built). It was mentioned for the first time in a document of the 12th century, and was a fiefdom of the Carafa, the De Ponte, the Macedonia and the Imperiale families.
