Cosoleto consists of two separate settlements: Sitizano and Acquaro. From its position it dominates all the villages down in the plain from the Gulf of Gioia Tauro to Punta Vaticano. Its territory, rich of chestnut forests, is included in the National Park of Aspromonte.
The main economic activities are cattle breeding and the production of cereals, wine, chestnuts, potatoes and olive oil. Also the crafts of woodcarving and ironwrought have an ancient tradition.

Called in antiquity "Cusuleto", it was a fiefdom of the Ruffo-Tranfo princes. There was an old castle and a Monastery but they were completely destroyed in the 1783 earthquake, after which the village was rebuilt on safer, rocky soil.
