Pescara - Tragedy and heroism 46 years ago / Tragedia pescarese, tre testimoni raccontano, by Cindy Virgili
Giovanni Mezzanotte was 19, and he was sunbathing on 2 June 1946 near the harbor, when he heard the screams of some children of a hospice who were drowning. He was able to save three of them, but could not save the fourth and drowned with him. Marcello Acerbo, 71, was his friend, and has never forgotten. His parents - he was an only child - never recovered from the tragedy. Other witnesses can still remember among the tears the deep emotion of the event. On his tomb there are always fresh, yellow and white flowers.
