Palena - Fish fossils in the Maiella / Resti fossili di pesci alle pendici della Maiella, by Serena Giannico
Between the Maiella and Mount Porrara rocks rich in fish fossils were found, the first discovery of this kind in the Appennines. The fossils date back to 8 million years ago. Also a small mammal, bamboo and plant species. A special meeting next Sunday of the Società italiana di geologia ambientale (Sigea) in Palena, and a project for a paleontological museum in the restored castle.
