Loreto Aprutino - Historical feast and congress on San Zopito this Sunday / Si svolgerà domenica un convegno, in occasione della processione del Bue di San Zopito
"Tradizioni e cultura del territorio - Il Bue di San Zopito, i Vetturali, l'Abruzzo dei riti", title of the meeting at 17 this Sunday in Castello Chiola. The "Bue di San Zopito" is one of the most interesting Abruzzese traditions: in 1711 while the saints' relics were being carried in a procession, an ox knelt down. nobody knows the real name of the saint, on whose tombstone the following words were placed: "Sopitus in Domino" (=asleep in God).

In contrada Acquasanta prof. Domenico Sansonetti of the "Alto Sangro" Archeoclub found traces of ancient water canals just near the remains of monastery San Giovanni D'Acquasanta, a reting place of Pope Celestino V.
