Chieti - The Procession is 500 years old / La Processione compie 500 anni
The "Processione del Cristo Morto" was officially organized by the Arciconfraternita del Sacro Monte dei Morti on 3 april 1648. The great fascination of this Holy Friday event, one of the most beautiful in Italy, is the "Miserere" by Saverio Selecchy (1708-1788), chapel master in San Giustino, who wrote it in 1740. Since 1855 seven wooden groups, designed by Raffaele Del Ponte and carved by Luigi and Paolo Anzellotti, were introduced: the Angelo, Lance, Colonna, Sasso, Veronica, Scala and Croce.
