Silone's Abruzzo has now become Europe's Abruzzo.

SPOLTORE - A 1000-year-old skeleton / Uno scheletro di mille anni fa, by Sergio Sciarra
During restoration at the Società Operaia, Spoltore, a finely preserved skeleton was found, teeth included. Dr Andrea Staffa, director of the Archeological Superintendency in Chieti, says the man died between the VI and IX century A.D., and the height and massive build point to his Lombard origin. Giustino Pace, Spoltore's historian, says the Lombards destroyed the ancient Roman houses in the area and established two settlements in Casaccio and Castellina. The place might have been a cemetery, since it was outside the walls of the village.

The last seven, colorful trabocchi might disappear forever. There is no law to forbid this. But these traditional images of mariner's history, originally poor fishing huts, later luxury meeting places, are a piece of Pescara's heart.

Avezzano - Piazza Torlonia fountain, made by Capistrello stone-carvers, is 100 years old / La fontana compie 100 anni - Venne realizzata dagli scalpellini di Capistrello , by Alvaro Salvi, Marsica historian
The octagonal fountain, donated to the city by Anna Maria and Giulio Torlonia on 23 september 1899 rose at the edge of Avezzano, surrounded by all the rich palaces Iatosti, Sebastiani, Del Rosso-DiRenzo, Mazzenga, destroyed by the 1915 earthquake. The fountain commemorated the draining of Lake Fucino.
