In Abruzzo the last eclipse of the second millennium will be at its maximum at 12.43. what are the best observation points? Roberto Tonelli, air force weather specialist in Pescara, says where humidity is lowest: the Pomilio refuge at Passolanciano, Campo Imperatore, Piano delle Cinque Miglia, Lake Campotosto. Luciano Schiazza, Forest Corps expert advises the Blockhaus or Piana Grande, in the Orfento reserve, Sant'Onofrio al Morrone, Prati della Maielletta and Roccamorice. Fausto Marini, the "starman", makes available his sophisticated telescope. And what about the effects? EU funds to projects aiming at creating new jobs and develop the territory in industry, technology and tourism. 5 billion to Piana del Cavaliere nella Marsica, 2 to Tocco da Casauria, 15.5 to snow-making plants in Alto Sangro and Altopiano delle Cinquemiglia, 1.1 to the archaeological park (Corfinio, Castel di Ieri), 5 billion to le Naiadi sports center in Pescara, 1 to Ortona's harbor, 1.6 for a golf field at Miglianico, 1 for the restoration of the palazzo Ducale at Carpineto Sinello. All this thanks also to the hard work of president Antonio Falconio in Brussels, who fought against the time schedule to produce the projects.

TORREBRUNA. Bruschette, penne, roast beef, roasted cheese and truffle is the menu suggested tomorrow and the day after by ecological association «Corvara», along with music and dances. Yesterday at Cupello traditional «sagra delle 'ndrocchie». The success of the event is also due to Cupellese housewives who worked for days using 120 kg flour to prepare the hand-made pasta typical of the area.

ISOLA DEL GRAN SASSO. At San Gabriele's sanctuary from 24 to 28 August one of the most significant cultural and religious event of the region: Tendopoli is a mixture of holiday and personal involvment. This year's theme «The Father: man's tent» is connected to the Third Millennium: organizer, padre Francesco Cordeschi, says there are temptations that may lead the human kind backwards, while God must be chosen as the only true guide forward. The fee to take part is 90,000 lire, including first courses for lunch and dinner (5,000 more per meal if you want also a second course, vegetables and fruit), breakfast, bag, T-shirt and Tendopoli book. By night accomodation in sleeping-bags under a tent, or also under big tents.

The return of Caldora knights - Pacentro, everything is ready for the historical re-enactment / Tornano i cavalieri di Caldora - Pacentro, tutto pronto per la rievocazione storica
PACENTRO. On 22 august thousands of people are expected to come to the small centre at the feet of Mount Morrone. The re-enactment celebrates the period of the great Caldora lords, when the Aragonese and Anjou were struggling for supremacy. Beginning from 15.30, medieval and Renaissance music will be broadcast from Castello Caldoresco, at 16 the blessing of the standards and signs, at 17 a costume parade starting from Pacentro Castle will proceed through the medieval alleys to Piazza Umberto I, where the joust will take place at 18. Then at 20.30 dinner in Piazza del Popolo and at 22 the award of the prizes.

The wolves are back to Civitella Alfedena. This fall the wildlife area, an enclosure where the animals can live in a state of partial freedom, will again have some of the last great predators of the Apennines. The area was closed five years ago because an epidemic illness was killing the animals. Other works in the area: improvements in the linx area and Rifugio La Liscia, the paths of Colle Pizzuto and Santa Lucia. Meanwhile visitors to Opi are enjoying the astounding beauty of Val Fondillo, where the park invested 1.8 billion Lire.

SAN GIOVANNI TEATINO. Panfilo Masciulli, 78, three war crosses for his concentration camp imprisonment, the Greece campaign and his partisan activity, loves everything of the old peasant tradition and especially appearing in costume parades and harvest celebrations. In co-operation with Sangiovanni racecourse center he organized a parade on horse-drawn carts, Abruzzese costumes and «ddu botte» music, with free distribution of typical cakes: neole, scrippelle, biscuits. His next step: taking the horse parade to Sambuceto.
