Exhibition at the great poet's house to commemorate D'Annunzio and the flight / La mostra alla casa del Vate ricorda d'Annunzio e il volo
Eleven planes flown by Abruzzese pilots repeated D'Annunzio's 1918 historical flight on Vienna in 1998. Both flights are shown in a photographic exhibition in the poet's house in Pescara; the exhibition was inaugurated yesterday and will be open till late September. While D'Annunzio launched over Vienna war pamphlets, last year the pilots launched messages hailing to the Uropean Union.

PENNE - Wonderful, but unknown. Five thousand visitors a year for the Museo Civico Diocesano, directed by Don Armando Salerni, visited mostly by occasional tourists that end there while sightseeing through the place. The museum (tel. 085 8210525, opening times: 10-13 and 16-19, entrance fee 2000 lire), founded in 1971, is on the Colle Sacro near the Cathedral founded by Charlemagne. The museum also offers a belvedere with a wonderful site on the medieval town and consists of 12 rooms telling about Penne, capital of the Farnese state in Abruzzo.

This year too the faithful will be able to pass through the Holy Door. After months of hard work the wooden door is ready. The mausoleum of San Pietro Celestino will be admired in all its marble splendour, next to Carl Ruther's canvas showing the saint on his deathbed. the other paintings by Ruther are still under restoration in Rome.

LORETO APRUTINO. Within the «Giostra dei sei rioni», tonight at 21 hours the theatrical company Paradosso, devoted to the rediscovery of traditional stories from Loreto Aprutino will perform along the ancient streets this traditional story. Actors: Fausto Roncone (the devil), Tommaso Di Giorgio (Saint Anthony), Mariaelena Di Giandomenico (the angel). Music by Giacomo Vallozza and Massimo Longaretti (oboe). saint Anthony is widely venerated throughout Abruzzo.

PINETO. The municipality, with the help of the local tourist operatores, has published 15,000 copies of a guide to pineto's summer, dealing with a calendar of events, excursions, a map and useful numbers.

CORFINIO - At 17.30 today the 10th edition of the Historical parade of Italic Peoples from Piazza Corfinio to San Pelino's church, where the ancient loyalty oath against the Roman invaders will be reenacted by 400 characters (priests, aristocrates, gladiators, servants) representing the Samnites, Marsians, Vestines, Picenians, Marucinians, Frentanians, Apuli, Lucanians and Peligni who joined in 91 B.C. Archaeological guided tours all day long.

Lanciano, from Philadelphia the Mastrogiurato's heir / da Filadelfia l'erede del Mastrogiurato - by Walter Berghella
LANCIANO - For the end-of millennium edition Thomas Giordano, 44, an Italian American born in Philadelphia, who's a descendant of a real Mastrogiurato. Giordano returned to Italy only eight years ago, got married and settled in Lecce. For four years he has been researching his roots. «i didn't know anything of my past, my great-grandfather emigrated in the early XX century, my late father, Mario, would have liked to know about our past, so I started from our ancestral town, Fossacesia. Then I discovered we descended from the famous Giordanos of Lanciano, and I am honored that I have been chosen for the re-enactment». The event will take place from 2nd to 5th September. The Mastrogiurato was chosen for his rectitude and moral qualities to enforce the laws in the medieval market fairs.
