My mother, Debora DiSanto was born in Schiavi d'Abruzzo in 1909. I visited Schiavi twice and found relatives on my mother's side who still live there. I was thrilled. Their names are Carmelina Schioppa Falasca and her daughter Paola Falasca Di Carlo. Paola's husband Piero had given me his email address, but I could never find it. Can someone who lives in Schiavi let them know I am asking for them and would like to write via email? I would really appreciate it. Also, my grandfather's mother, Rosalba Sforza DiSanto - would there be any relatives in Schiavi?

Hello, Merry Christmas!
I am responding to John Marcello of Australia, who was looking for DiGuilmi's from Vasto. If there are any others please feel free to respond.
My name is Laura DiGuilmi - Bale. My father's family was from Abruzzo. My grandfather, Michael was born there in 1893. I think he had 7 brothers and sisters. I know one brother's name was Nicholas and two of the sisters were Incoronata and Grazia. His parents name's were Joseph and Catherine. He came to the USA in the beginning of 1900's with his brother Nicholas. He married Ana Prospero, She was also from Vasta. They had 7 children. My father, Rudolph was one of them.
I hope some of this sounds familiar. We are very close with my mother's family from Sorrento, but lost track of the DiGuilmi's in Abruzzo. Sincerely,
Laura DiGuilmi-Bale

My name is Mario, born in 1938 in Navelli, L'Aquila to Agostino and Teresa Bonifacio. My mother's maiden name was D'Attilio and her mother's maiden name was DiFelice.
We immigrated to Timmins, Ontario, Canada in 1948 where my grandfather (mother's father) worked in the gold mines of Northern Ontario for many, many years. I never knew my grandparents on my father's side.
I grew up and went to school in Northern Ontario, then served 35 years in the Canadian Army. I am now retired and living in a small community in Southern Georgian Bay.
I would like to hear from anyone with a connection to either family and the community of Navelli.
Thank you.

Your site for Fornelli is very interesting. Very happy to have found it since my mother spend a very difficult part of her life there during the 2nd WW. Your date for the tragedy that befell Fornelli and its town council is incorrect. It should read October 4th 1943. Not 1942. This is a place of great interest to me.
I am interested in hearing from anyone who might have more information on this event in the history of Fornelli. Also information on any of the surviving evacuees from Isernia who end up in Fornelli during this time period of August to November 1943.

My mother was born in Schiavi d'Abruzzo and she used to make a wonderful cookie that she called (and I'll spell it the way it sounded) Taralucce. I was wondering if anyone from Schiavi or Abruzzo would be able to send me the recipe for this. I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks so much. Sandra

My father's name was Joseph (Peppo) Pacella, born in Pacentro. His father - Giacondino Pacella, mother Laura. I can't remember her maiden name off the top of my head.
I have recently been to Pacentro to look for the family house that was accross from the convent that is now a home for the elderly. I was told that his family moved to Argentina. This was obviously not accurate.
I went to the hall of records and found my fathers record of birth. If you have any family in Ohio, Pennsylvania or California (this is where my parents relocated in the 60's.) We may be related!!!
