Thank you for designing this Web Site....my cousin, Sharon Danton (D'Antonio familia) (mainden names) has made contact with our family members in Fara San Martino and this has renewed my interest in my Italian heritage. I hope to visit Chieti some day, and it really helps to learn more about the region.

Looking for any information on Antonio Benedetto from a small village in Abruzzi and his wife Irene (Decarlo) The oldest son died at the age of 8 at a fire work display between 1905 and 1907. the other 2 children were Joseph born sept 3, 1903 and Laura born March 12, 1901. they came to the US in 1907 and settled in Phila. Pa.
I am also looking for info on Mary(Giantonio) and Stefano Delbuono from Molise. They had children Filamena and Angelina. I am not sure when they came to the US and settled in Phila. but I would guess in the early 1900's. Mary also had a brother James Giantonio. Any information I can get on these families would be wonderful.
Happy New Year to all!

While searching for a relative artist (giacomo diChirico) I fell into this wonderful web-site . Abruzzi is my maternal roots and di Chirico my paternal....guess all roads do lead to Rome! WHERE is the listing for the town of TAGLIOCOZZO? Granted it's small but it is there....I've visited and seen the church at the top of the hill whose crucifix survived several lightening bolts (as the story goes and I am sure has grown through time)! If you are from Tagliocozzo and know the name Tobacco...my great uncle was a beloved priest there...please contact me. Also, please loby for a separate listing for the wonderful little town with the fountain in the square that was the bithplace of my beloved mother and hers' and hers'. Please write in English if you can...When my grandmother died I lost all contact with the language to my deep regret. Ciao, Toni Chirico Shiffman

Merry Christmas. 2002 was a great year for me and my family. I finally got to see the town where my grandfather was born....Rapino in Chieti Province. My grandfather was Domenico Rosano. He passed away in 1967. We were welcomed with open arms, and stayed one night in the only hotel (Il Tiglio) in town. My wife and I speak very little Italian.. but it didn't matter because we were able to understand each other easily. The town probably hasn't changed much in the 91 years since my grandfather left to come to America. Remove the modern conveniences like automobiles and buses and it could very well be taken for Rapino, 1911. My wife and I attended Mass. We were the only tourists in a church that was filled with about 15 women wearing black (widows?). I think the church could hold maybe 50 people. The scenery was beautiful from the town with the mountains in the background. I noted very beautiful hand painted pottery in one of the shops in town. but it was closed. The restaurant was filled with men, except for my wife.. a throwback to the old days. The proprietor of the restaurant and hotel was a Mascioli.. a distant relative of my grandfather. My grandfather's sister married a Mascioli. I would have liked to find out the house my grandfather lived in, but that would have taken a lot more time and a better handle of the language, and we just didn't have either. Hopefully one day we or my children will be able to return. Ciao.

My name is Ron Benvenuto, I was born in Vacri, Abruzzo but now live in Canada. Unfortunately I have lost touch with most of my relatives. I have relatives in Binghamton NY. who are from the Nanni family. Would like to know how they are all doing. My grandfather on my mothers side was a Paciocco. He left my grandmother around 1922 and started a new family in the Detriot area. We have never been able to contact this side of the family. I know I have cousins there and would love to know a little about them. I would apreciate any information someone might have on these two families.

Fantastic website!!!! Wish I had found it before my first visit to Abruzzo in Jan 2000...looked for (and found living relatives of my mother [nee D'Andrea] in Casoli). Also found D'Andrea who were not directly related but who welcomed me into their homes and went out of their friendly ways to help me in my search (example: personally took me to parish cemetary in Roccascalegna to find my family grave sites. I've been trying since return from second trip to obtain WW II info. I know there was POW camp in Chieti,
for captured allied flyers before they were transferred to a Stalagluft, and that there was German occupation in certain villages. But, can anyone direct me to sources for British 8th Army liberation of Chieti province? And/or tell me where the Germans were located during their occupation.
PS-Anticipating a return visit in February just to enjoy the countryside as a tourist.

I am so excited to find this site. I have been looking for a friend who lives in Ortona. I have no last name but Marino is his first name and his wife’s first name Marina are the same.
Marino owns a language and interpreting school in Ortona. We met in 1994 and again in 1995 while visiting my daughter and her family who were transferred there by my son in-laws company, 'Sonsub'.
I was fortunate to be able to stay for a total of almost 5 months. It was so hard to leave each time.
Regretfully my son in-laws contract expired and they moved back to the states in 1997
Marino was hired to teach my daughter Italian and I am in need of an interpreter for a group of travelers I am planning a tour to the typically unseen, but so charming, areas of Italy. Since I now the Chieti area so well, of course, it was first on my list.
If someone can help find Marino I would so grateful. (I hope I am spelling their name correctly.)
