He died at 33 in 1181, and just four years later, in 1185, he was declared a Saint by Pope Lucius III.

A sword stuck in the rock immediately recalls the legend of King Arthur and his sword, in some legends identified with the mythical Excalibur. But in Tuscany, at Montesiepi near Siena, inside a round chapel you would see the hilt of a beautiful medieval sword that was by miracle not extracted, but stuck into a rock, by a young knight tired of a life of violence.
