Poor Matilde, who did not understand anything of all that happened, takes her vows to become a nun. During the wedding, the father has a heart attack and dies in secret at home, so as not to postpone the ceremony. On his tomb the epitaph: Honor and family.
After the first films of social and political criticism, Germi began to be interested in comedy, making satirical, cynically humorous films, becoming one of the greatest exponents of Italian comedy, among which Divorzio all'Italiana (= Divorce Italian Style), which earned him the Oscar for best original screenplay in 1963.
