Was William Shakespeare Italian?
In 2016 the 500th anniversary of William Shakespeare's death is celebrated. But who was really this mysterious writer? For centuries scholars have debated the "Shakespeare's authorship question" with wealth of theories on either side. The Documentary
The Mystery
In the early 20th century, from internal evidence of his works, the mysteries of his life, and the documents on Italian expatriates in Elizabethan England, a new theory was proposed. Shakespeare might have been a Michel Agnolo Florio from Messina.
The documentary here transcribed in four parts was made by Voyager, an Italian Rai2 entertainment program, that deals mainly with issues related to alleged unsolved mysteries. In this first part, the host of the program, Roberto Giacobbo, summarizes the many questions about William Shakespeare's identity.
