Obviously, today the therapeutic use of the dance is virtually non-existent, but the tradition is well established in popular dances, drama, pubs and restaurants, also among the youngest generations.
Puglia regional songs
The folk tradition of music in Puglia is characterized since the 12th century by the dance called "Pizzica" (=Pinch).
Two forms of Pizzica exist: the Pizzica d'Amore or Pizzicarella, which is a dance of courtship and competition among young men, often accompanied by sword dances; and the Pizzica Tarantata, deeply rooted in Arabian culture, allegedly used for healing from the bites of tarantulas and snakes, but also for the treatment of psychiatric ailments similar in their effects to the bites of poisonous animals.
