Liguria regional songs
The folk music of Liguria has relations with Provence and France but is also influenced by some forms from southern Italy as the stornelli (=ditty rhymes).
A charming, original form of oral tradition is the "Trallallero" popular in the urban area of Genoa and Liguria, of peasant origin, later adopted by the workers of the harbor. Among the typical songs of this region are fishermen's melodies, lullabies, songs in quatrains with alternating rhymes similar to the "strambotti". The melodies are usually monophonic (sung with one voice only) though there are some two-voice specimens, similar to the traditions of Friuli and Abruzzo.
