Emilia Romagna regional songs
In the folk songs of Emilia-Romagna there are influences from all over northern Italy.
Here folk music is especially connected to choir music, opera and dance, as well as other forms typical of central and southern Italy, as the "strambotto" (an octave with six lines in alternated rhyme and a final rhyming couplet) and the "stornello" (a ditty, improvised poetry generally on very simple matters, such as love or satire). There are basically two broad categories: the mountain songs, based on dancing rhythms, and the songs of the plains, which are more melancholy.
