Ateleta is a small town of about 1100 (as of 2017) inhabitants, located in the mountains of Abruzzo 114 km from l'Aquila, the Province capital, and immediately north of the border with Molise. It was a "new town" founded by Joachim Murat in the early 1800's with inhabitants form the villages of Carceri, Roccapizzi and Asinella, as well as some families from Pescocostanzo.
