Translation into English from the original transcription in Latin made by Liborio da Padova, Monte Cassino 1866

Public Act to authenticate some miracles obtained through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin, by means of the sacred Image worshipped in the main church of Pesco Costanzo. From the parchment preserved in the Church Archive.

(the Document is in Latin, the declarations given by the people are in Italian) In the name of Our Lord Jesus Christ Amen. In the Year of the Lord 1538, on the day 31 of May. In the land of Pesco Costanzo, and indeed in the church of Santa Maria del Colle, under the reign of our Catholic Lords, Queen Giovanna and King Carlo her eldest son, king of the Romans and Emperor Augustus, reigning over Spain, Castilla, Aragona, Hungary, Jerusalem and both Sicilies, for 22 years sovreigns happily indeed of this Kingdom of Sicily citra Farum (=this side of the Messina Strait) Amen.

We, Massus Cole Massi (=Masso son of Cola Masso) of this land of Pesco, illiterate judge appointed to contracts, Antonio de Antonuccio de Badiano, public notary by royal authority everywhere and all over the kingdom, and the undersigned witnesses, that is to say, magnifico Leonardo Infanciullus de Arpino, captain of the aforesaid land of Pesco; Nicola Berardino de Vulpis from Rivisondoli; venerable Don Marino de Carallis; venerable Don Costantino de Falconis of the aforesaid land of Pesco; Giovanni Leonardo of Berardino Giacomo Antonio, and Berardino Giacomo Antonio (=Giacomantonio) from Civitaluparella; all literate and especially summoned to this, by means of the present written public document we declare, make public and testify that in the presence of ourselves, abovesaid judge, notary and witnesses, on the mentined day and place, personally appeared venerable Don Antonio Mancino, rector of the said church of Santa Maria del Colle and stated before us that in the said church there is an Image of the glorious Virgin Mary, and that it is in very great veneration, and in devotion of it several people come, and since they suffer of some infirmity or defect, asking for a grace from the Blessed Virgin so that sho would show miracles in healing them.

And since the Blessed Virgin before so much devotion made a number of miracles, healing the blind and several others crippled in their limbs or infirm, which miracles are well known to all people of their lands; and since the said Don Antonio Rector of said church wants to make said miracles public and increase the devotion of the Blessed Virgin, he asked us, judge, and notary and witnesses, that we would take full information of said miracles from those who were miraculaously healed, and after obtaining said information about the miracles made by the Blessed Mary, we would give full and undoubted testimonial by means of this Public Document.

And since our role is public, and not to be denied to anyone, considering such a request to be just and rational, we decided to take said information from the undersigned people suffering of those infirmities, that is to say, Donato Rubeo from Alfedena, who of his own will stated before us that, being sick of such a terrible illness that he could not use his arms or other limbs of his person, which was known and apparent to all that knew and saw him, going with devotion before said Image with a prayer that she would give him a miracle his request was fulfilled, and we saw him free from disease and healthy.

In the same way Pietro Passarella from Alfedena stated before us that having been sick for 14 months in his back, so much that he could not stand or walk, which was known and apparent to all that knew and saw him, going with devotion before said Image with a prayer that she would give him a miracle his request was fulfilled, and we saw him free from disease and healthy.

In the same way Cola de Vivo from Fallascoso stated before us that having been suffering for his sight, so much that he since 4 years he had seen hardly anything, which was known and apparent to all that knew and saw him, going with devotion before said Image with a prayer that she would give him a miracle, and listening to the Mass, he started to see the consecrated Host, and his request was heard, and we saw him free from disease and healthy.

Laura di Giovanni Benedetto from Fallascoso similarly infirm in her sight that she hardly saw anything, reccommending herself to said Image and coming to visit, praying that that the Image would make her the miracle to give her back the sight of her eyes, and she was almost totally healed, which was known and apparent to all that knew her, as she said.

Giacomo de Mascitello from Pizzoferrato, being seriously infirm so that he could not walk at all, reccommending himself to said Image and coming to visit, praying that that the Image would make him the miracle to free him from said infirmity, and after he made his prayer he was fulfilled and freed, and we saw him healthy and free.

Berardina of Antonio de Matteo of said land of Pesco, having been sick for three years, so much so that she could not stand for the pain in her back, and when she wanted to walk she almost touched the ground with her mouth, reccommending herself to said Image and coming to visit, praying that that the Image would make her the miracle to free her, and after she made her prayer she was fulfilled and freed, and we saw her healthy and free.

Donata of Berardino Cappello of said land of Pesco, similarly sick having been crippled four years, so much so that she could not walk at all, reccommending herself to said Image and coming to visit, praying that that the Image would make her the miracle to free her from said infirmity, and after she made her prayer she was at once fulfilled and freed, and we saw her healthy and free, which was known and apparent to all in the Land of Pesco and other places that knew her, as she said.

Similarly, Cola Banoia of said land of Pesco, infirm in his sight and almost totally blind, for over two years, reccommending himself to said Image and coming to visit, praying that that the Image would make him the miracle to free him, and he was fulfilled and freed as he said, which was known and apparent to all in the Land of Pesco and other places where said Cola is known, and we saw him healthy and freeas she said.

About all and each of these things we were requested to make a public deed to certify the truth, and how to everyone these miracles are evident, and how in everyone the devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary is increased. Therefore, for future memory of that, this public document was made, which I, Anonio, wrote and published, and signed with my usual and known seal, strengthened with the signatures and cross signs of said Judge - Praise be to God Almighty
