Roma nun fa' la stupida stasera

The text was written by Peter Garinei and Sandro Giovannini for Nino Manfredi and Lea Massari, protagonists of the 1962 musical Rugantino.
The song became known throughout Italy and one of the most representative of the city of Rome. The music was by maestro Armando Trovajoli, who also directed the orchestra in the first performance.

Roma nun fa' la stupida stasera
damme 'na mano a faje di' de sì
sceji tutte le stelle piu' brillarelle
che puoi e un friccico de luna
tutta pe' noi
Rome do not be stupid tonight
give me a hand to make her say yes
choose all the stars the most shining
you can and a piece of moon
all for us

faje senti' ch'e' quasi primavera
manna li mejo grilli pe' fa' cri cri
prestame er ponentino
piu' malandrino che c'hai
Roma reggeme er moccolo stasera
make her feel that's almost spring
send the best crickets to sing
lend me the western wind
the most villain that you have
Rome hold a candle for me tonight

Roma nun fa' la stupida stasera
damme 'na mano a famme di' de no
spegni tutte le stelle
piu' brillarelle che c'hai
nasconneme la luna se no so' guai
Rome do not be stupid tonight
give me a hand to say no
turn off all the stars
the most shining you have you got
hide the moon or there's trouble

famme scorda' ch'e' quasi primavera
tiemme 'na mano in testa pe' di' de no
smorza quer venticello
stuzzicarello che c'hai
Let me forget it's almost spring
put your hand on my head to say no
hush that breeze
so mocking that you have

Roma nun fa' la stupida stasera
famme scorda' ch'e' quasi primavera
tiemme 'na mano in testa pe' di' de no
smorza quer venticello
stuzzicarello che c'hai
Roma nun fa' la stupida stasera
Roma nun fa' la stupida stasera
Roma nun fa' la stupida stasera
Rome do not be stupid tonight ...
