Dicitencello vuje

Dicitencello vuje was written in 1930, music by Rodolfo Falvo, lyrics by Enzo Fusco.
Dicitencello vuje The lyrics express the love declaration of a man towards the woman he loves, an indirect declaration. The man addresses a friend of his beloved and asks her to relate that he has lost sleep, the passion is so strong that he cannot live anymore. But in the last line, when he sees a tear on the face of the woman he's speaking to, he confesses that it's her the woman he loves.

The song was adapted into English with the title Just Say I Love Her (arranged by Jack Val & Jimmy Dale, lyrics by Martin Kalmanoff & Sam Ward) and performed by many singers, among them Vic Damone, Eddie Fisher, Frankie Avalon, Al Martino, Dean Martin, Connie Francis, Artie Shaw, Tony Bennett, Timi Yuro, Nina Simone.

Dicitencello a 'sta cumpagna vosta
ch'aggio perduto 'o suonno e 'a fantasia...
please tell your friend
that i've lost sleep and fantasy too

ch' 'a penzo sempe,
ch'è tutt' 'a vita mia...
that I always think of her
that she's all my life

I' nce 'o vvulesse dicere,
ma nun ce 'o ssaccio dí...
I'd really like to tell her
but I don't know how to tell her

'A voglio bene
'A voglio bene assaje!
I love her
I love her so much

Dicitencello vuje
ca nun mm' 'a scordo maje.
you go tell her
that I can never forget her

È 'na passione,
cchiù forte 'e na catena,
'tis a passion
stronger than a chain

ca mme turmenta ll'anema...
e nun mme fa campá!
that torments my soul
and doesn't let me live

Dicitencello ch'è 'na rosa 'e maggio,
ch'è assaje cchiù bella
'e na jurnata 'e sole...
tell her that she is a rose of May
that she is much more beautiful
than a sunny day

Da 'a vocca soja,
cchiù fresca d''e vviole,
from her mouth
that is more fresh than violets

i' giá vulesse sèntere
ch'è 'nnammurata 'e me!
I'd already like to hear
that she is in love with me

'A voglio bene
'A voglio bene assaje!
I love her
I love her so much

Dicitencello vuje
ca nun mm' 'a scordo maje.
you go tell her
that I can never forget her

È 'na passione,
cchiù forte 'e 'na catena,
It is a passion
stronger than a chain

ca mme turmenta ll'anema...
e nun mme fa campá!
that torments my soul
and doesn't let me live

Na lácrema lucente v'è caduta...
a shining tear trickled down your face

dicíteme nu poco: a che penzate?!
tell me, what are you thinking?

Cu st'uocchie doce,
vuje sola mme guardate..
with these sweet eyes
you only are looking at me

Levámmoce 'sta maschera,
dicimmo 'a veritá...
let's take off these masks
let's tell the truth

Te voglio bene
Te voglio bene assaje!
I love you
I love you so much

Si' tu chesta catena
ca nun se spezza maje.
you are this chain
that is never broken

Suonno gentile,
suspiro mio carnale...
O kind sleep,
my carnal sigh...

Te cerco comm'a ll'aria:
Te voglio pe' campá!...
I seek you like air
I want you to be able to live
