Inno degli Alpini

The Anthem of the Alpine Corps, or the "Trentatré" (=Thirty-tree) because it was the 33rd piece in the repertoire of the fanfare of the first Alpini corps.
Actually, its true origin is in a French song: Les Fiers Alpins, lyrics by D'Estel, music by Travè. On official occasions, the Alpini bands always play their anthem, followed by the national anthem "Fratelli d'Italia"

Dai fidi tetti del villaggio
i bravi alpini son partiti;
mostran la forza ed il coraggio
della lor salda gioventù.
From the trusted roofs of the village
the good Alpini have left;
they show the strength and courage
of their firm youth.

Son dell'Alpe i bei cadetti,
nella robusta giovinezza
dai loro baldi e forti petti
spira un'indomita fierezza.
The handsome cadets are from the Alps,
in the robust youth
of their bold strong hearts
breaths an indomitable pride.

O valore alpin,
difendi sempre la frontiera,
e là sui confin
tien sempre alta la bandiera.
O alpini value,
always defend the frontier,
and there on the borders
always keep the flag high.

Sentinella all'erta
per il suol nostro italiano,
dove amor sorride
e più benigno irradia il sol.
Sentry, on guard
for our soil Italian,
where love smiles
and more benign the sun shines.

Là tra le selve ed i burroni,
là tra le nebbie fredde e il gelo,
piantan con forza i lor picconi
ed il cammin sembra più lieve.
there among forests and ravines,
there in the cold fog and ice,
they place strongly their pickaxes
and the path seems lighter.

Risplenda il sole o scenda l'ora
che reca in ciel l'oscurità,
il bravo Alpin vigila ognora
pronto a lanciare il "Chi va là?"
Whether the sun shines or the hour comes
that brings darkness to the sky,
the good Alpino always is guarding
ready to shout "Who's there?"
