How to use the Italian White Pages

The official, continuously updated website for the Italian phone directory is http://paginebianche.it/
(click to open in a new window, so you can still continue to read this tutorial)
To find present addresses you will need exact spelling of the surname; then you can limit the research by village or town, or province (two-letter abbreviation, listed below) or region of origin (i.e. Napoli refers to the city, NA to the province), or region (20 regions, below in CAPITAL letters) of origin. If the surname you are searching is common and there are over 200 in Italy, the Pagine Bianche search engine supplies max 200 results. If you do not insert the place, the engine will search throughout Italy.

The screenshots below will show you how to use the white pages effectively to find addresses of people and offices. If you need to write for certificates, instead of the surname insert in the "cognome" field the word "Municipio" or "Comune" (=townhall).

Language selection

Below is the first screen that you will see, where you can start by selecting your language

Write the surname

If you have selected English, you will see this second screen, where you can write the name and surname of the person you are searching for. The surname is however enough.

Write the place

You can then proceed to write the name of the place (which must be in Italian). This can be a village, town, or region. If you want to limit to a Province, you have to write the province abbreviation (listed above - for example, AQ will return results all over the Province of L'Aquila). If you do not write anything in this field, the research will be made all over Italy.

Find

Finally, click on the button "Find" and wait for the results. If your search returned too many results, you can always limit to a smaller place (in the results you will see where the name appears), or, conversely, enlarge the results to a region or Province. This function is useful also to know all the places in a province where a given surname appears.
